Care

The materials used are from nature, and like all things, are subject to the passing of time. Here you will find the answers to allow your pieces a beautiful evolution with you.

Bone:

  • Bone is porous; do not go swimming in chlorine pools, the ocean, lakes with adornments made from bone unless you want to create an unpredictable stain. Avoid exposure to staining formulas or oils.
  • Keep away from animals! If your pet gets a hold of your jewelry, not only can it become damaged, but the bone can pose a choking hazard. We recommend keeping jewelry stashed safely when not in use.
  • When bone is no longer inside an organism, it becomes brittle. Avoid rough handling or impacts to prolong the life of your adornments.
  • If make-up or lotion gets on bone, use a bit of Dawn dish soap or Bar Keeper`s Friend on a toothbrush and scrub with warm water in circular motions.

If you would like a professional cleaning, I offer the service at an additional cost (please use contact form on CONTACT page.

Metal:

  • Metal will tarnish with time, this is the beauty of this material!
  • For Sterling silver, use a jeweler`s cloth to polish if patina is undesired, or if your mood changes.
  • For brass, use Brasso or another method to polish up any tarnish if you so desire. Rubbing a lemon with salt on brass also works! I however, love the evolution of brass over time, as it changes dependent of its environment, wonderfully capturing a story of time passed and the memories made along the way.

Professional polishing available.

Leather:

  • Leather morphs and flexes to fit the wearer. With more use, the material becomes more soft and supple, shifting to fit you.
  • If you`d like, to maintain your leather, you may apply mink oil or leather conditioner to hydrate the material. This can not only add a nice polish and deepen the color, but also protect from elements and improve flexibility. Please be mindful to do so avoiding any absorbent materials or bone.
  • Leather is one of those materials that get better with time. Scratches and scuffs, colors evolve the material with wear.

With all natural materials, and even synthetic, things show the passage of time. My personal preference is to let the natural order shine, but regardless, with proper care or not, my pieces can last for years, even a lifetime. I aim to create works that come from the earth, and will return back to it, cutting out the norm of fashion where discarded pieces will sit for centuries before degrading.
